Question
I would like to create or edit a "Jobs-by-Email" search.
Answer
The Jobs-by-Email you receive will be a reflection of the information that you have inserted into the specified fields. It is an automated programme that looks at what you have inserted and searches through all the vacancies on the site and matches them to the keywords you entered when you created the search. It will filter out any that do not match with the data you have inserted.
Please be aware however, that the programme will only search and word match for you and will not interpret your requirements and provide you with details for example, about a job as a Secretary, if you have specified that you only wish to be advised about a jobs as a Personal Assistant.
Below we detail how best to create or edit a search strings.
- Login to your account
- In the Jobs-by-Email section at the top of the page, either select "add" to create a new search or locate the search string you wish to change and select the "Edit" link at the end of the line.
- Insert your information to create a new search or make any necessary changes to an existing search (see below) and select save.
You will then start to receive your Jobs-by-Email.
Advice:
Successful search strings can often be a trial and error process (as common with most Web search engines);
- Use the MUST and MUST NOT include boxes to include/exclude particular keywords
- Avoid using - (dash) or / (slash) between keywords, only use commas, as some types of punctuation are not 'read' by search engines and may be ignored
- Use speech marks around job titles such as 'Project Manager', so that they are viewed as a phrase and not two individual words
- Avoid using words like 'anywhere' in the location filter, as this is not specific enough
If you want to test to see if your search string is working as you want it to, click on the drop down box contained with the "Search Now" section in your account. This section contains all the search strings you have set up and will allow you to see the results online there and then. Simply select the relevant string and your results will appear.
Finally, if you wish to change or add to your registered industry sectors (maximum of four can be selected) simply:
- Scroll down to the bottom of your account page to where it says 'Your Details'.
- Follow the link to 'change this information' and make and save your changes
REMEMBER - Test the profile once it's been created by searching for jobs using the orange round button. If they don't find any matches you will not receive any emails, so try altering your search criteria.
